This blog post is for the penny pinching gentlemen or lady like myself, my economical shoppers, or those who like to ball out on other things. “New Year Clean Skin”, is my secret routine (I lied, not really a secret) I use to keep my face fresh and dirt free. “What do you use to get your skin so smooth and clear?” is a question I get asked a lot. But to be honest I usually say genetics, my parents have had smooth, clear, beautiful skin for as long as I can remember. My mother uses Clinque’s 3 Step Skin Care System (a bit on the pricey end), and my father just uses whatever soap he can find and water.
I do break out though, and these volcanos love to gather on my forehead, side of my nose or on my chin. Usually due to stress, not drinking enough water or when I slip up and eat cheese. “New Year Clean Skin” is my go to 98.98% organic routine to keep these occurrences from happening.
African Black Soap - I swear by African Black Soap (Nubian Heritage brand). This soap is made with palm ash, plantain peel extract, tamarind extract and papaya enzymes. I would advise testing the soap out on your neck or hands first to make sure you don’t get an allergic reaction. Especially those that have a lot of allergies.
Witch Hazel - The leaves and bark from the Witch Hazel plant are used to make a 100% natural and light astringent. Softer on my skin than most astringents that are filled with drying alcohol.
Cotton Balls - use the cotton balls to clean your face with Witch Hazel.
Wash Cloth - NEEDED! I use a soft/light cloth to wash my face to guarantee the cleanse and removal of the days dirt and oil off my face. Don't use the same one you clean your body with.
Olive Oil & Lemon Juice Oil Mask - Take a bottle cap and fill it half way with olive oil then the rest with lemon juice & mix together. A little goes a long way, and this oil mask leaves my face baby butt smooth!
Brown Sugar - You can add brown sugar as a scrub to the Olive Oil & Lemon Juice mask for that extra kick of dirt and dry skin removal.
Step 1: Wash your face once a day (morning or night) with warm water, (to open up pores) African Black Soap and your fav oil. The reason I use African Black Soap once a day is because it is a very powerful soap and more than one use can really dry out your skin. But to each is own.
Step 2: When I feel like my face has gotten the ultimate scrub down from my Black Soap, I pour a couple drops of my fav oil onto my wash cloth and repeat the motion and rinse.
Step 3: (Optional): After you rinse the Black Soap and fav oil off your face clean your face with Witch Hazel using a cotton ball.
Step 4: Lotion, or whatever your heart desires. Just make sure you use something that will put moisture back into your skin, especially during colder seasons. I use coconut oil.
Olive Oil & Lemon Juice Oil Mask
This mask is for everyday use and can be used in the morning, at night, or before the African Black Soap routine. I use a bottle cap, because with oil a little goes a long way. Leave it on for 30 minutes or until it starts to run in your eyes and get annoying lol. Rinse off by soaking your cotton ball with Witch Hazel, then use cold water (to close your pores) and your wash cloth to clean off the Witch Hazel.
Why Olive Oil & Lemon Juice?
Lemon is a natural antiseptic, antimicrobial, and healer for skin. The citric acid in lemons are used in skin peels and exfoliators. Olive Oil has component oleic acid which guarantees penetration, antioxidants, and vitamins for cell renew and skin improvements. Filled with essential fats with vitamin E which are skin protectants, and used as anti-inflammatory products.
